Yes, we're still experiencing 90-degree days, but before you know it, it will be time for some crisp fall weather! But while Fall brings some heat relief, it also brings a whole slew of new activities that can lead to musculoskeletal pain: apple picking, leaf raking, hiking, maybe even an impromptu football game ...the list goes on!

Here are some helpful tips on how to stay safe and pain-free this Fall season:

  • Take a break from repetitive activities. For example, if you set aside an afternoon to rake your yard, be sure to stop every 30 minutes and stretch your arm, shoulder and back muscles. Consistently doing the same motion for an extended period of time can lead to soreness, pain or even actual injury.
  • Stretch before any strenuous activity. As mentioned above, take some time to stretch during activities ... but also be sure you're warmed up before any major action, like going for a hike.
  • Make physical activity a priority. The phrase "use it or lose it!" applies to your physical fitness! With the weather cooling off, there is no excuse to head outdoors and get active.
  • Keep eating healthy. As the weather gets cooler, it is tempting to nosh on comfort foods. Plenty of communities also host fall festivals and fairs, which have their own nutritional pitfalls. While funnel cake is delicious, remember to keep it as the occasional treat and not make it a mainstay of your fall plate. You'll feel much better by sticking to leafy greens, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins!
  • See a chiropractor! A chiropractor will keep you perfectly aligned so you can enjoy the most out of the upcoming season. Find a GCA chiropractor near you to schedule your appointment today.
